  1. What is the scene at the threshing floor? 

 

  1. What does it mean that Naomi is encouraging Ruth to seek a redeemer?  3:1-4 2; 2:20  

 

  1. If you were poor, and had to become an indentured servant or slave to work off your debts, your redeemer-relative (brother, cousin, uncle, family kin) may redeem you. Dt 15:12-17

 

  1. If you became poor and had to sell your land to pay your debts, the redeemer-relative was to buy back the land so you wouldn’t lose your inheritance in the promised land. Lev 25:23-25 

 

  1. If there was a pre-meditated murder of someone in the family, your redeemer-relative was responsible to execute justice and capital punishment upon the murderer. Num 35:16-19 

 

  1. If there is a widow in the clan with no heirs, the redeemer-relative is responsible to marry the widow and raise up a child to carry on the name and inherit the land of the dead husband. The first relative responsible to do this was the husband’s brother, who in latin is the levir, so this has been called the levirate law. Deuteronomy 25:5-6; Gen 39:8-9; Ruth 3
